Bug report bujpbcar filed. Executable (with md5sums) attached.

Apparently, not all systems are affected by this or Linux users would be storming Realsoftware with torches. :-)

I wonder if setting MALLOC_CHECK_=2 and/or linking against libefence may help the developers expose the problem in a more widespread way..

Hah, the feedback system has a 1.8 MB upload cap that I didn't know about. So your attachment came across awfully small. :-P

So can you zip the file up and email it to me directly (aaron@realsoftware.com)? Also, if you could, try this out: do an md5 hash of a brand new install, and then after it corrupt, do another md5 hash. I'm wondering if they match or not (perhaps the executable itself is becoming corrupt somehow). Just want to rule that out as a cause (because it seems to only happen to some people on RH -- we can't reproduce it internally on our test machines).

After working with Robert on this (off-list), he's tracked it down to prelink corrupting the REALbasic install.

Here's a painkiller for any other affected users.

Add teh line
-b /usr/bin/REALbasic2006r2/REALbasic2006
to the end of /etc/prelink.conf to blacklist that executable from the
nightly cron job. I just did that and manually cranked off a prelink
and the 'rpm --verify REALbasic' didn't hock anything up.

So check your cron jobs to see if you have prelink running, and if you do, you should blacklist REALbasic.

Thanx, Aaron. I'd meant to follow up here.

For those in the audience affected by this, it's worth noting that 'rpm --verify' doesn't turn anything _different_ up; it will still return one line of complaining about an empty file.

To recover, you will have to reinstall REALbasic. You can allegedly "unprelink" a binary, but I had no success with this.

FYI

Prelink definitely messes up REALbasic, added to blacklist and now seems stable. Thanks.

Regarding the launcher for R2, you need to edit:

/usr/share/applications/REALbasic2006r2.desktop and change the references from r1 to r2 in the paths, the launcher then works fine.

Sorry, I cannot help because I was not able to install the libstdc++.so.5 file.

Can you help me on that one for Fedora Core 5 ?

I'm new to Linux, and am running Xandros 4.0. Is there some easy way to see if my system meets the requirements of RB2006r3?

Thanks in advance,
Rich
