We are gathering information about how people feel about the name REALbasic and would appreciate your input. Please complete the following 2-question survey: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=0 ... in5A_3d_3d

The option buttons in that survey don't work, for me at least.

I think it worked for me but what's with only having a one lined text field for a reply?

Does REAL Software really want to change the name of REALbasic after it's recently won awards?

Alienating to a new name after winning awards (and recently increasing quality) isn't the best decision making.

Of course, removing oneself from the long time bad quality reputation could be a smart move.

Why not spend the effort and money it would take to rebrand RealBasic, and put it towards the bug fix list instead?

Changing the name doesn't change the "product"..... unless all the known issues are fixed, any bad rep RealBasic has would soon be earned by "New&Improved Whatever"..... and then whats been accomplished?

MacCocoaBasic
CocoaBasic

On Wind and Linux there is a lot of Basic languages, I think,
But for the Macintosh, nope ..

RS could create one version called CocoaBasic for Macintosh..
And then trim the API to be more native, without thinking about cross platform problems..

Actually, I think the part of the name they are trying to get away from is "Basic".

At least the discussions of this in the past have been about trying to lose the "amateur programmer" stigma that many feel is attached to any form of Basic.

When Studio was announced I thought it was going to be "RealBasic Studio", like "RealBasic Professional". But instead they dropped Basic, and it is "Real Studio".

I think they hope to do the same with the whole product line, becoming "RealCode" or "RealSomethingTotallyNotConnectedWithBasic" or something.

Maybe they could just go with "Real".

Real Professional

Right. Most of the "Why do people hate REALbasic?"-style threads have mentioned the fact that anything even remotely related to BASIC automatically gives you amateur status - although if our 200-line apps can beat up a 200,000-line C++ app I see no reason for complaining...

More than likely...

Seriously doubt it... no coder in his right mind would ever Google "Real" as a programming language. BASIC, yes... C++, yes... Java, yes... but Real? Uh-uh. REALbasic will perhaps become REALCode, or REALDevelopment, or even REALIDE... but I seriously doubt it will EVER become "Real". Just my 2c worth...

If it is the "Basic" that is the problem, then just add X to REAL and viola REAL-X . this have worked for Kodak since 1954 and works still today in the product family Tri-X and Plus-X.

Ugh, I hate it when someone refuses to use a BASIC language because they feel it's below them and their godlike skills. You know what they say about the workman who blames his tools...

I think it's the "Real" that is the problem. They might be better off saying "SurrealBasic" or "UnrealBasiX" or something. Then, fewer people would complain about bugs, because, well, it's supposed to be Surreal. :D

REAL CrossBasic for Cross Platform Development - we make it happen!

A re-branding is no REAL problem because it would be a good story with an advertising effect and all who would look for REAL BASIC could still find it.
