I need to use my serial port at 460800 baud; my PCI-RS232 board supports up to 920kb/s but
System.SerialPort(3).MaximumSpeed

returns 230400.

Do I can setting an higher speed? The language reference says "Setting nonstandard baud rates is supported only on Windows" but I don't understand what it means...

Thanks in advance.

Not all serial devices report their maximum supported speed, so in that case, REALbasic defaults to a fairly reasonable max speed of 230k baud.

The best thing you can do is set the baud to what you require, then open (or reset) the port and see what baud rate the OS is allowing you to transfer at.

Serial1.Baud = 460800
if not Serial1.Open then return

if Serial1.Baud < 460800 then return

Hello Aaron,

I know it is an old post, but it helped me alot. I have the same problem: the current FTDI driver 2.2.16 from http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm allows me to set Serial1.Baud = 500000 (tested so far for PPC MacOS-X 10.4.11 and Intel MacOS-X 10.6.8), connecting to new "black box" for model railroad controlling.

System.SerialPort(3).MaximumSpeed still reports 230400 baud. Can I hope that the driver is really using such a high speed? The communication seems to be stable, but connection fails sometimes.

Is there any other way to access the driver's MaximumSpeed via RealBasic/RealStudio (except by testing)?

Thanks in advance!
Mafi

Hello to all,
maybe this is the solution (also by Aaron): http://support.realsoftware.com/listarc ... 03161.html
