A warning just-in-case:

Allowing Events in your window's and controls' Open events are a sure way to mess things up.

E.g, avoid at any cost App.DoEvents() and ShowModal calls (e.g. for a progress window) during opening of a window.

Well I've spent the whole day whittling this down to determine exactly where the problem arises.

Now that I'm done I'm as stumped as ever... It seems that there is one particular window that, if opened, causes the problem.

If that window is never opened then the buttons work fine. The problem pops up even if I open and then immediately close the window.

As far as I can tell the window has no interaction with menubars, with the other windows, or with variables referenced by other windows. So now I really am starting to think this is a bug.

My only course of action now is to try recreating that window from scratch to see if the problem goes away. Thank you all again for your helpful suggestions.

Problem solved!

The solution?

 !!!MAGIC!!!

All I had to do was make a new window, copy the controls from the bad window to the new window, and like that... poof... the problem disappeared entirely throughout the whole application.

Can you believe I didn't think to try such an obvious solution sooner?! :D

So this is clearly a bug in RB then. Do you still have the bad project?
Can you export the window of the bad and the good version and send them to me? I could analyse what's the difference and maybe recommend a bug fix to RS.

I'll see if I can find it and put it together in a way that makes it simple to determine the bug.

Unfortunately it looks like the only backup I have is 8 days old and I'm not getting the error on that one.

I'll keep trying to replicate it if I can.
