I am wondering how does one install an Rb App( compiled in Rb pro) in Ubuntu Linux 9.10 Karmic. Does one drag a uncompressed (zip?) folder to a specific Loaction?

The best way (IMO) is to create a .deb package. That way your program can be installed and uninstalled using the built-in package manager.

Otherwise, and don't quote me on this, I believe that user-installed non-critical programs go in the /opt directory. So your program would be installed in the /opt/yourprogram directory:

/opt/yourprogram/bin
Where the binary(ies) is(are) located

/opt/yourprogram/share/man
for MAN pages, if any

/var/opt/yourprogram/
variable files (like log files and such)

I just copy and paste each of my rb apps (and any associated files) into their own sub folder of /home/steve/apps

Makes uninstalling as easy as deleting the folder.

Hello everyone.
Am new to RB.
I created a small program with RB Pro on my windows (bought recently).
I created the application for Windows and Linux.
The application for windows, works well, and the other for linux do not know how to make it work.
How do I run the applications compiled for Linux on Ubuntu?
Thank you for your reply.

just copy the files from the linux build to your linux system and make sure the main file is executable.

easiest way is to open a shell on the linux box, change to the directory of your linux build, and set the executable bit of the application:
chmod +x MyApplicationBinary

You're correct, AFAIK, and RB itself follows this convention.
