I recently installed Ubuntu 7.10 and downloaded REALbasic 2007 r5 Linux version to try out on Ubuntu. Everything seemed to go well in the download and install process. However, when I click on the icon on the top of the Ubuntu desktop window it appears to start loading. I get the big REALbasic name on the screen with the message that "Loading Artwork" the changes to "Loading Framework" then everything disappears and I am back to the blank Ubuntu Desktop screen. Am I doing something wrong or missing a step somewhere to get it started? Thanks

Hi Rodney,
If you try to launch the program from a terminal window, you will probably get an error message telling you of a library that is missing.

In the Terminal, cd to the directory where the RB application is and then type:
./REALbasic2007 (or what ever the name of the file is)

You should see the same windows and then a message in the terminal window.

I am so new at this I can seem to find where the program resides. In my home directory I find the REALbasic License but no other files. If I type ¨ locate REALbasic |less ¨ I get several pages of files with the REALbasic name imbedded but do not have a clue as to how to use them. Any advice please?

I did a packagemanager install of 2008r1 on Ubuntu before the tarball was available and it put it at
Quote:
/opt/REALSoftware/REALbasic2008r1/REALbasic2008

It might be worth looking to see if such a path is available on your machine.

I went to the terminal and typed in find / REALbasic |less
and I did find the following among several hundred other items:
/opt/REALSoftwar/REALbasic2007r5/REALbasic2007
but do not know what to do now to try to run it. Can you advise me? Thanks

Either look in the Applications menu at the Programming section and see if you can run it from thereImage
or open Terminal and type
Quote:
cwd /opt/REALSoftwar/REALbasic2007r5
./REALbasic2007

I tried to run it by going to Applications (REALbasic showed up) so I clicked on it. The program appears to start loading--I get two consecutive screens with a brief picture, then a blank screen.

Since then, I also loaded Gambis2 from the epos and it also shows up in the Applications. Again, when I try to run Gambis2, the same thing happens. It appears to load (the little round busy signal appears for a bit) then reverts to a blank screen with no further activity.
Is there some special procedure for running an application that I am missing or ignoring? I am a rank beginner with Ubuntu so it is probably something I am not doing correctly. Thanks for any advice. Rodney
