Hello,

I come back with the same problem that since five or six months.

The online help did not work an display...nothing ! The help windows stay empty.
When launching REALBasic in console, I see the message Online help init etc... without error.

If I remember correctly the last time I have see that working was on Slackware 12.1, with REALBasic2008r3...
This has nothing to do with Slackware 12.1 or 12.2 because the problem occur in both versions with all REALBasic versions after 2008r3.

Is that related to some posts I have see, indicating that the html viewer did not work under linux ?

Any way to solve the problem ?

Many thanks.
Philippe

Try opening REALbasic from a terminal window
This will log any errors etc to that terminal window and should give a better idea of what's not working

It could be that the required libraries are not present that the help system requires

Hello,

When launching REALBasic from a console I see that :

[RB] Unable to load plugin RBGameInput.rbx
[RB] Unable to load plugin RBQT.rbx
[RB] Unable to load plugin Oracle Plugin.rbx
[RB] Unable to load plugin ODBC Plugin.rbx
Loading Office classes ...
Loading dependencies ...
Cleaning up ...
Done loading ...
Initialize online help ...
Done initializing online help ...

As far I have see, the plugins loading problems can be ignored under linux.

No error or fault are reported when I start the online help.

Thanks for the help on this subject.

Philippe

Sounds like the install of linux is missing required libraries to use the HTMLViewer

Hi Philippe,

No, but if misery loves company, than I'm with you. My RB2008 r4.2 has never worked on the help function. Ubuntu 8.04, AMD64 (and yes, I know 64 bit is not supported.)

Let me ask you, can you print your code from the RB print function?? That's my second complaint.

Dan

Norm,

Can you list the dependencies? Although Synaptic should have identified them on the load, perhaps there is something we still need.

Also, what version of libGTKHTML? Can you send a link to it?

it should work with just about any version of libGTKHTML

But you might try a newer version of RB as it should be giving you a warning at the very least about what's missing / wrong

Hi Norm,

I'm on the beta list and downloaded and tried the latest release. The result was identical to before, I think...

I also tried running it on the KDE desktop, instead of GNOME, without success.

I will check again, but, I am convinced the problem is, as you say, a missing dependency. I went to load a newer libGTKHTML 2.11.1 which led me to 2 possible dependencies, one of which was gtk2.14.4, which in turn led me to find a need for glib2-2.17 or higher. It turns out, my GNOME configures with glib2-2.16. This may lead us to a solution, but RB could make this a whole lot easier with a list of these, and a script to load them.

Best wishes,
Dan

Hello there !

libgtkhtml is installed (i guess in version 2.11.1). I will try rb2009r2 tonight and see if there is something better...

I also try Gambas in the same time.....

Thanks for the time and the help.

Does for me too (Ubuntu 8.04 under VMWare Server, Windows XP SP2 host), but going to the Help menu, then clicking the "Language Reference" menu item loads the online help OK... try that instead. ;)
