I have just upgraded a 2011 App to Cocoa and it works fine. I have just tried to upload to the Mac app store and it says it
The application bundle does not contain an icon in ICNS format containing both a 512x512 and a 512x512@2x image.
I am currently running Real Studio 2012 release 2.1
Before I simply created an icon using icon composer and placed it in my resources folder.
As instructed in the Apple HIG I ted the iconutil command in terminal to create an icns file containing both a 512x512 and a 512x512@2x images.
Placed this in the resources file, repacked and submitted but got the same error message
The application bundle does not contain an icon in ICNS format containing both a 512x512 and a 512x512@2x image.
Any help appreciated.

Here's how I make app icons for Mac App Store. It works for me and haven't been questioned by the reviewers yet.

1. Create a 1024x1024 icon using Pixelmator/Photoshop/Acorn/your other favorite application, save it as png (with a transparent background). Do NOT use Icon Composer, it is not recommended by Apple, as you cannot create Retina (1024x1024) icons with the current version.

2. Download https://github.com/audiocommander/Iconset-Generator.

3. Open the Generate Iconset.workflow in Automator, select the png file in Finder, click Run in Automator.

4. The workflow creates a folder on the Desktop, containing the full set of icon sizes (from the original png file).

5. Open Terminal and type:

iconutil -c icns ~/Desktop/myIcon.iconset

It generates the correct icns file, ready to be dragged to RB Package Maker Studio (or whatever tool you use) to create a codesigned bundle for MAS. The 512x512@2x icon size is in fact the original 1024x1024 icon image from your png file.

Personally I generate my image at about 16xx or 2048, then when I wrap my application, I use my own App Wrapper to generate a Retina compatible ICNS file and embed it into the app bundle when it codesigns the app. It even auto generates AHIG approved document icons from that single image too.

Thanks Gre
I followed your procedure to generate the icns file which worked great.
At this stage I upgraded to Mountain lion 10.8.3 Disaster I could no longer code sign my app in terminal!! It said it was defective.
I booted from my backup drive running 10.7.5.
Put the icns file in the resources folder. Code signing worked fine.
I then uploaded to App store no problem. Now waiting for review.
Many thanks
