I want to place a status icon in the system menu bar at the top of the desktop for one of my apps but I can't find any documentation anywhere as to how to accomplish this with RS. How is this accomplished in RS?

To be clear, I'm looking for coding help, so please, please, please, no plugs for plug-ins.

But this is not built into RS.
You can do it with our NSStatusitemMBS plugin class.

Greetings

There was a fork of macoslib that had NSStatusItem stuff in it which worked fine but I haven't been able to find it for the last couple of months so it may have gone. Might be worth a good hunt around though, it definitely existed. This should be built-in to RS though, it's irritating that it isn't.

Thanks for the tip, that's more in line with the kind of help I'm looking for. I'll see if I can find anything on macoslib and NSStatusItem. I also agree that it's rather irritating that RS already can't do this. There are times when I think I'd be better off going to back to C rather than spending a lot of time researching the things that RS can't do. I prefer to do my own coding, third party plug-ins are never the solution I'm looking for when I post here.

Is this the fork you are looking for?

Yes, I found that one and a number of others, although it looks like it will take a bit of work. I can accomplish what I want for now with the dock icon, so I'm going put this off until I either have enough time to work in my own class or RS finally gets around to adding one for the system menu bar. It isn't a big enough issue to justify spending a lot of time or money on right now.
