Hi all,
Is it possible in RealStudio 2011 R4 to create an exe that when running, does not show up in the task bar etc - in other words, run in hidden mode?

Any ideas, or links to other wrapper software to achieve this would be welcome.

Thank you all in advance.

Uncheck the Visible property in the window's attributes.

Or set Window.Visible in your code.

Thanks guys,
I thought that would just hide the actual window - I didn't realise it would also prevent the icon from appearing in the task bar etc.

I am trying to create a kind of key logger app, and therefore do not want users to realise the app is running.

That is probably illegal in most countries.

What is illegal? A key logger app?

Recording keystrokes without the user's knowledge is what I refer to. By definition, that's spyware and many countries have passed laws against such. An example of such a law in the UK is the Computer Misuse Act of 1990. In the USA spyware authors could be indicted under either the Federal Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (pertinent parts codified as 18 USC ยง 1030) or one of the dozens of state laws.

Certainly most people would agree that a program which was installed without their knowledge and which is recording their every keystroke is unwelcome and unethical. Aside from the potential criminal liabilities associated with creating such software, there also exists civil liability: depending on the jurisdiction you can be sued for invading the privacy of another person or other offenses.

I am not a lawyer by any means. But even I know that creating software which even appears to be malicious (even if that's not its intent) is inherently dangerous for the developer. This is especially true if they live in a country (like the UK and USA) where the punishments can be severe (up to 5-10 years in prison in some cases and fines in the thousands.)

Oh - I thought you meant that hiding an app from the task bar was illegal. lol

The app I am making will simply be run in hidden mode and monitor the PC for attached USB drives.
When a USB stick is inserted, I want my app to automatically unmount the USB stick - this is simply to prevent staff copying work files, or loading their own software onto work PCs.

I mentioned a key logger app, as a way to explain that I wanted the app invisible to the users, so that they simply do not close the app and then insert their USB stick.

Hopefully this kind of app could not be construed as illegal?????
