Currently using RB2009r2 in Windows XP, I have had a small problem in versions back to 2005.
When using the IDE and often when running apps. the Windows task bar disappears. When the IDE or an app is closed it usually reappears but not always.

Since this has occurred so commonly regardless of hardware or RB version I can hardly believe that it does not occur for everyone. It has not been critical for me since I do not distribute my software but I would expect it to be very significant for those who do.

Would anyone comment/provide a solution?

Usually it's a combination of window MenuBar and MenuVisible settings. I forget which one kills the task bar but that's why it keeps happening.

MenuBarVisible. If you uncheck that:
RealBasic documentation wrote:
When set to False, the menu bar is hidden whenever the window is the frontmost non-floating window.

It actually is designed to hide all system-wide UI. On Macintosh, it also hides the Dock and any global floating windows. On Windows, it hides the Taskbar and Start button. If you only want to hide the menubar, set the MenuBar property to Nil.

Thanks for the replies, folks. I have done a quick test and found that the the task bar does indeed disappear if I run a window with 'Menubar:false' and re-appears when I close the window.
At first sight this seems crazy. This property should surely apply only to the window's menu bar. When running an app. in Windows there are certainly situations where I would like to hide the Task Bar and other visible evidence of the OS but in most cases this is not so.
Also, even if I do want to hide it, it should not be permanently banished even when I kill the app. This seems to happen randomly.

The unfortunate name for that property is a carryover from OS X. Bottom line, though, leave MenuBarVisible alone. If you don't want a menu bar on the window, set the Menu property to None (there is a dropdown where you can select it).

Yes, I see it all now and can avoid the problem in future. However I think it is a bad situation.
