i upgraded from realbasic 2007.4 for windows to the current version of that part of realstudio. aside from 100s of deprecated controls, many controls made the conversion without problem. buts i cannot move some controls, comboxs in particular, maybe others. i try clicking and dragging and typing new values for left and top and they do not move. some controls have moved from one page to another.

suggestions?

Are the control positions locked? Chack the property pane for each control.

If you have RS 2010 then you should see blue locks on the bottom-left of a control, you can unlock controls by right-click and the click "Unlock"

i have never locked controls before so locking is not a problem. for this i have locked, then unlocked the control and i still cannot move it by dragging it or typing in new values.

the program is large (7 MB) and has many hundreds of controls and my computer is older so the problem might be due to the combination. i am getting a new laptop and might try it on that.

i even have some controls that cannot be selected. they seem to float in space and be immune to selection.

Are your controls on a page Panel, tab panel, or container?

controls are on page panels and tab panels.

from working with them they seem to be locked on the top but not the left but the lock top box is not checked. i have never used locked positions.

Ahh. Upgrading from the old version has caused your page panels to loose track of what controls belong to which panel. Page Panels were quite buggy in previous version of RB.
You first try should be to move all of your controls off the window into the Pasteboard area of your IDE. Then move the controls back one at a time into the correct page panel. I know this is quite tedious, but I believe it's the only way you're going to get RB to replace the controls on the proper panel.

i took everything off a multi page tab panel. as i started to return things, one at a time, a number of the push buttons can't be moved below a certain value of Top. they can move left or right and up but below a certain value, whether dragged or had a value entered for the position, they refuse to go there. no lock left, right, too or bottom is checked.

I've had the same problem before.
Sometimes controls appear to be stuck when they are actually still inside containers elsewhere in the window. The container has been made smaller leaving the control outside it's borders.
If you move the container and controls around move with it, try expanding your panels outside the controls and see if the controls can be accessed.

Ok, I bought the new version, made the conversion from 2007 to 2010 and tried moving controls off the tab panel, tried duplicating them, checked their properties, locked and unlocked and now push buttons, radio buttons and static text jump up to a top of about 1660 when they are dragged below or when i change their top in the properties box. even newly created push buttons do it. i don't use containers, not available in the personal edition. this was not a problem in the 2007 r4 version.

i just tried moving a tab panel up in the ide, locking a control and then moving the tab panel down. the locked control moved up to the imaginary line that controls won't go below. when i moved the tab panel up after that, it did not move.

Copy the control to a new project (it should copy the event code with it), delete it from your project and copy it back in.

Or save the project as xml and reload it. Or save it as rbvcp and reload it. Or save it as xml and examine the properties of each control.

thanks. i tried all of the suggestions. they didn't work. the invisible line below which tops cannot go varies by + or - 40 or 50 but it stops locked and unlocked controls. copy and pasting back doesn't work. i created new push buttons and they have the same trouble.

i can push page panels and tab panels off left, right and top the edge of the ide and controls don't seem to be affected.

i have been told by one of the RB consultants that the ide was made smaller between 2007 and 2011 and the tops for some of my controls are below the new bottom of the ide so they move themselves up when the file is opened in the 2011 version.

Wow. Exactly how big is your layout? Do you have a lot of controls off the window that you move in as needed?
