We provide a small command line tool (which also has a visual interface that loads if no parameters are specified). When run, this tiny tool spikes the CPU like crazy until it loads. The work done is very light, just a small web query. Even with no logic, just loading it spikes the CPU.

How can we get this more efficient? I'm a bit of a noob. Is there a library I'm including that I don't need?

I'm running it on Windows.

So the CPU only spikes when you launch the app, but once it is loaded it calms down? I see that as normal behavior on my 64bit Windows 7 machine with everything I launch. Just now I opened up TaskMan and as my CPU spiked when I launched Notepad, but it went right back down. Are you sure it isn't just that, or are you experiencing long periods that are maxed out?

Well, ya the spike goes down.. But its a really serious spike. Affects 32 bit too... And it enough that it interferes with server operations. (It's a commandline tool called by servers.)
