I'm trying out the latest demo to see if I can use RB in a new project (it means doing an upgrade, of course). Anyway, I have lots of plugins from versions 4.5 and 5.5, but when I move them into the RB 2008r5 plugin folder, nothing happens. I figure they're being ignored at load time because maybe they don't have an rbx extension. I tried the simplistic approach and added the rbx extension to the plugins. One prevented RB from opening (no message at all), another one I tried still just gets ignored.

My question is whether it's possible to use plugins for these older versions in the latest release. If so, what's the trick to get them installed?

Chuck

Not yet. I'm still on a G4, but I'm moving to an Intel machine in the spring.
And that's also why I'm looking at upgrading my RB.

RB moves on, and plugins usually need to do so too.
a) Consider if you really need them
b) If so, contact the makers and see if they have released new Universal Binary versions.

I don't think RB supports the resource-based plugins any more. In fact, I'm not certain the plugin converter even supports them any more. But you can check -- the plugin SDK has a plugin convert to make .rbx files. If the latest one doesn't work, you may be able to scare up an older version of the SDK somewhere which is able to convert the plugin for you.
