I am finally trying to learn to build plugins and I am hitting a compiler error that I don't understand. I am using Windows Vista with Dev-C++, trying to build the simple add5 plugin in the documentation with help from jdiwnab's tutorial. Below is the error, followed by the complete compiler log.

Quote:
//Says it is in a file named "ld"
dllcrt2.o: No such file: No such file or directory

Quote:
Compiler: Default compiler
Building Makefile: "C:\Users\Jennifer\Desktop\add5\Makefile.win"
Executing make...
make.exe -f "C:\Users\Jennifer\Desktop\add5\Makefile.win" all
g++.exe -c dllmain.cpp -o dllmain.o -I"C:/Dev-Cpp/lib/gcc/mingw32/3.4.2/include" -I"C:/Dev-Cpp/include/c++/3.4.2/backward" -I"C:/Dev-Cpp/include/c++/3.4.2/mingw32" -I"C:/Dev-Cpp/include/c++/3.4.2" -I"C:/Dev-Cpp/include" -DBUILDING_DLL=1 -D IGNOREQT -include "Winheader++.h" dllwrap.exe --output-def libadd5.def --driver-name c++ --implib libadd5.a dllmain.o PluginMain.o -L"C:/Dev-Cpp/lib" --export-all-symbols --add-stdcall-alias -o add5.dllld:
dllcrt2.o: No such file: No such file or directory
dllwrap.exe: no export definition file provided.
Creating one, but that may not be what you want
dllwrap.exe: c++ exited with status 1make.exe: *** [add5.dll] Error 1Execution terminated

There is no ld and I can't find a reference to it.

The ld command is trying to link the dllcrt2.o file into your resulting binary.

It's that file that is missing, not ld. Are you certain about your VS installation? You may want to update things by downloading VS Express (it's free) if you aren't an MSDN member, or the latest VS 2005 if you are (be sure to update to VS2005 SP1).

I'm using Dev-C++ because I was told that VC++ doesn't do dll's. I will try starting over with a fresh download. If that doesn't work I guess I will have to buy a full copy of VC++. It's not critical, but something I am determined to master.

The express edition (the free one from MS) doesn't do dlls. Most other versions do.

I have been extremely busy trying to get my server back up. Hopefully I'll get it this week. Then I can look into this more.
