There's a new Plugin SDK that's available to download. You can get your copy here.

This SDK is a major refresh which has deprecated major parts of the older SDK functionality. A future version of the SDK will remove the functionality entirely, so you are strongly urged to update any deprecated items.

The new version of the SDK also comes with more functionality, such as the ability to create and manipulate arrays in a uniform fashion, better support for variants and brand new API documentation.

Aaron,

Does this mean that we need to redo our existing plugins ?

Also should I able to use my existing VC++ solution files the same way and just update stuff like pluginmain etc ?

Nope, you should just be able to recompile your plugins with the new SDK whenever you want -- you shouldn't have to change any of your code unless you want to take advantage of the new features.

And you should be able to use your existing VC++ solution -- the only thing you may need to do is update things like where the includes directories point to and stuff. The consolidation was mostly just adding #if blocks for various compilers and then moving the examples into the regular SDK.

Aaron,

The examples in the latest SDK ZIP still make use of some of the deprecated calls. One example that comes to mind quickly is the use of REALmethodDefinition and REALRegisterMethod where the changes doc says to use the "module" version rather than the method version.

I'm curious as to what others might exist. As a newbie Plugin coder, I'm plenty confused without the examples going against the limited documentation.

Tim

Which makes it even worse that the new, new SDK still has conflicting information inside...

You can refer some open source plugins, such as PNGUtilities v18 and ZZipUtilities v03.

Might have been a better idea to start a new topic to place a new creation date there.

Is this the current SDK? i.e. for 2008r5.1?
