What is the easiest/best way to implement background audio in RealStudio 2011 r2. I have not used RealBasic since 2007-2008 and I was wondering if there is a better way of doing it so it can be done on multiple platforms (Win XP/Vista/7, Mac OS X 10.4+, Linux). Not too interested in Linux right now but always good to know for the future.

I have MonkeyBreadSoftware Plug-In 10.5 if that makes it easier.

I am also looking to implement simple short audio sound effects while the background music is playing. Back in 2007-2008, I had background music running, but sometimes when I played a sound effect, the background music would cut-out until the sound effect was over. That happened rarely, but I want to prevent it. It happened quite often in Windows.

I was using a movie player object but I want to know if a better way has come out.

Thanks

Use a the Sound class or use an invisible MoviePlayer.

Now I have a new problem. I had no problem playing MP3 files in Mac OS X 10.5 "Leopard", but now they won't play in 10.6 "Snow Leopard". What am I doing wrong? There is nothing wrong with the audio files as they play fine in iTunes. They just won't play in a RealBasic application.

that's strange...
did you get the Sound.Volume property right and is the FolderItem (sound file) that you play existing and not Nil?

I have a previously compiled version of my app from 2008 and it works fine in Leopard but the sound does not play in Snow Leopard.

I did go through my source and make sure the MP3 is not Nil, but it still won't play.

I have not change my code since I made it back in 2008. Very strange.

In my 2008 source code I used an invisible MoviePlayer to play the sound file.

Also my MP3 sound effects don't work either.

EDIT: It seems that Real Studio does not like when I use a different extension other than .mp3 when using a sound file.

RealBasic 2007-2008 had no problem when I had the extension as .dat. Weird.
