Hi there,

whithin a few days, I´ll get a controller with a usb-stick, looking like a Playstation-Controller. I will want to find out, how to read that controller. I understood that Realbasic has it´s built-In GameInput-Classes.

For my MacOS I will need to install an additional Plugin, is that correct? Something with hid (human interface device)?

Does someone know where to get it and how to install on a mac?

Thx,

Jens

See the section on the GameInputManager
Use the GameInputManager, GameInputDevice, and GameInputElement classes to manage input devices, such as joysticks, used for gaming. Each such device is a GameInputDevice and each of a device’s controls, such as its buttons and joystick axes, is a GameInputElement.

On OS X

The keyboard and mouse button are supported. In addition, you need to install the file “HID.Bundle” in the same folder as your application to access other game input devices, such as joysticks.

The HID.bundle was included with several examples up to 2007r5 (Examples > Games >Game Input)

Hi Norman,

1rst: Thank you for reminding me on the examples-folder! I´ve completely forgotten it over the years.

2nd: Yes, I´ve found the game-Input-Folder, it was released until Rb2007R3, so I hope it´s not too old, I´ll test it out.

3rd: I´ve immediately found it in the Manual, of course, but there it´s not explained where and how to find the hid.bundle.

OK, not that I have it, I´ll look into that example an try to learn.
I am afraid I´ll have to make declares and dig for hours in the apple documentation just to read out the joystick or some of the controller-buttons. But we´ll see...

Thank you very much, I should have searched for the hid.bundle on my own computer and not in the internet first.

:-)

Norman,

thank you!

The GameInput-example-Program immediately worked and I can read out everything of that control! I can immediately start with my programming task.

Lovely,

Jens
