It depends on how you've built your web app. If you're using a Standalone build you'll have to put it on the server and open the port you've set up for it. So if I had something on port 12345 for my app at bkeeney.com, they'd get to it by using www.bkeeney.com:12345.

If you're building a cgi application, it automatically chooses the port and your reference by the path on your server like www.bkeeney.com/clients/TestApp/testapp.cgi.

Hope that makes sense.

The answer is that it depends. What kind of server do you have?

As long as your server has Apache you can do cgi apps. Standalone apps are a good option too. In reality, in your case, it shouldn't matter as Ubuntu is well supported. You might have to install the 32 bit compatibility libraries but otherwise you should be good.
