I'm looking into some sort of auto-licensing for my app. Derman in particular as it works with Kagi. Anyone have any experiences integrating their licensing control with RB?

Well, I use Share-It and have provided them a key generator to process sales automatically for a product.
Works very nice. Once setup you get an email for each sale and your check on the next month.

Greetings
Christian

I use Christian's Kagi plugin

Its a little time consuming to set up the decoding algorithm in Real Studio, but using the Extended plugin (free) helps with the math like converting very large numbers between bases or factoring large numbers. Once you have your decoding routine worked out its simple to make a few changes and recycle the code for your next great project.

Kagi plugin:

Extended plugin:

Kagi are always responsive to requests (for example to have them turn serial number munging on or off for testing your application using the test credit card number). My check is always on time each month. The charges are reasonable. They collect tax for me (in the US its taxed in CA). I have no complaints.

Can the Kagi plugin do what the other license control companies do? Christian, you have a plugin but you use Share-It? I'm a tad confused.

I once made on for Kagi, but not for Share-it.

I also do not see the big problem here. With Share-it for example you send the customer to the website. On the end you have a serial number generator. There you can output an URL like myapp://Christian/1234567 so the user can click on it on the end. Your app needs to be the URL handler for this.

Greetings
Christian

I'm not saying there's a problem, but I just am not quite sure I understand. I would basically like to not have to keep watching my email for purchases, which it sounds like Share-it could do for me. I thought I would have to supply them with a list of serial numbers that they would distribute.

The license control of Softworkz and/or Derman are appealing because they also provide probably a better (but not fool-proof) licensing scheme than I have and could also be configured to deny a license to a seller who buys, then does a charge-back. I've had that happen to me before. I didn't think Kagi could do that without using Derman or Softworkz. But I can't make heads or tails out of what I should do with either of their code samples. None are for RealBasic.

Share-it provides you with email per sale. You can generate code yourself, provide a list or a generator.
See my example:

I finally had some time to look at your script, Christian. It looks like I was able to make a version with my own serial number algorithm and I sent it to Share-It to install so I can test it. The only change I had to make was to comment out "print CurrentMethodName" in UnhandledException. Possibly because I have an older version of RB than you used (I have 2008 rel. 4.2). I'll let you know how it works out once they install it for me. Thanks for that script! If that works it will untether me from having to watch my email all the time. :D
