I'm evaluating Real Studio to see if it would be possible (and a good idea) to port a VB.net-application to Real Studio in order to get cross platform-capability.

In my VB.net project I'm extencivly using UserControls to create custom controls. One such control is a button with text and a shortcut-key-combination, both displayed on the button. These two parameters, as well as two background colors and even the possibility to remove the shortcut-text (change layout of button) is available in the properties-window in VB.net. Is this possible with Real Studio - to create a ContainerControl with properties of different types which can be edited in the properties-window in the layout-editor?

No. Container controls *used to* all you to set properties via the properties list in the Layout editor. It was removed for unknown reasons a release or two ago. There was probably a bug they fixed that caused this issue, but to fix the property list bug would cause other issues.

But, I agree, it would be most beneficial to have this back. FeedBack item is <feedback://showreport?report_id=5428>.

I've had to resort to adding the properties in the open event. It's a PITA, IMO, and detracts from the power and usefulness of container controls.

That's a shame, building the UI will be a bit more abstract when forced to change properties of controls at runtime. It will also take longer time and be more prone to mistakes...

Feedback is for paying customers, right? At the moment I'm only using the 30 day trial to evaluate Real Studio.

Thanks for the reply!

It is a shame. BUT, it's something that's easily worked around. And I would say that it's not runtime that's the issue, it's design time. At runtime you'll have to use code to change properties anyway. At design time you would like to just change a property via the properties list rather than via code, but that's where the Open even comes in handy.

Yup. I disagree with the decision but it's not my company. :P

No problem. I've been an RB consultant for over a decade. So, to put it colloquially, I've been in this rodeo a few times.
