I have an application I wrote that I would normally open files through the menu.
i.e. File, Open... .fil
So, on a MAC, when I click on my applications file type, the OS asks what application I'd like to use to open this fil type.
I navigate to my application but it isn't highlightable.

So two questions:

1) why isn't my application a recommended application for this type?
2) App.OpenDocument is called if the user has double-clicked on a document whose creator matches the application’s creator, but the window that has the method to read the data isn't know to App.

create a filetype for the kind of file you want.
In the project settings, assign an application identifier
eg
com.mycompany.productname

in AcceptfileTypes, add the file type you want.
Set the Role to be 'editor'

On windows, use the installer to assign the type to your app.

In the OpenDocument event of the app, you are passed an item as a folder item.
This is the file you need to open.
