This is a minor annoyance but over time it has cost me a lot of development time.

The more I use RB the more I'm annoyed that CTRL + B is the Build hotkey. I frequently hit it by accident when I'm trying to paste something, or when I meant to hit CTRL + R to run a project. Then it takes forever to build and it seems impossible to cancel the build since the IDE just freezes. So each time this happens I lose 1-2 minutes of time that I could have spent developing, and lose my train of thought.

I can't find any way to configure hotkeys within the IDE, so I can't change it myself.

My preference would be for CTRL+ B to open the build options window, and CTRL + SHIFT + B to build.

Any suggestions (other than "You're an idiot quit pressing that button if you don't want to build!")?

P.S. I posted that while waiting for an accidental build to complete.

It's no offense to REAL Software. RB is a great IDE. But I have to agree. I occasionally do press Command + B accidentally. I also don't like the Build folder.

It would be nice to be able to remove the keyboard shortcut or assign it another modifier.

The "Cancel" seems to cancel when its good and ready, not on your schedule.

I completely agree. I often hit Command-B when I don't mean to (usually I was trying to type Command-V to paste some code).

At least with Mac OS X you can easily reassign the shortcut:

• Open Keyboard preference pane
• Select Keyboard Shortcuts tab
• Select Application Shortcuts
• Click the '+' to add REALbasic/REAL Studio
• Type "Build Application" as the Menu Title and press Option-Command-B to set the new keyboard shortcut
• Click Add

You'll have to do this for each release of REALbasic because it is tied to the app name (which changes with each release).

Unfortunately, I don't have an equivalent tip for Windows users.

I do this quite often as well, although I have large hands so I am also constatnly hitting the CTRL-C keys when I am trying to hit the CTRL-V keys.

You jinxed me with this post. Before today I'd probably accidentally hit ctrl-b once or twice. Today I was doing a lot of pasting, and hit ctrl-b a LOT, and was thinking a feature request to change the hotkey would be nice. *laugh*

I'm glad I'm not the only one doing this. Maybe if enough people reply I should make a feature request and reference this thread?

Pressing CTRL-T to cancel the building doesn't work for you?

I'll have to try it. On my IDE it says it's for "Stop Debugging" so I never thought to try it.

Not sure why I did that originally but it's public now

Just reporting back that CTRL + T does seem to stop the build eventually.
