Hi,

Has anyone figured out how to get a field on a report to grow to accept all the text contained in its associated database field. I think I have tried the obvious by ticking Wordwrap and Multi Line and also by increasing the height of the field box on the report but the text refuses to wrap and just gets truncated :( .

best wishes
Simon

Just tried. Doesn't work. I entered "This text is too long to display on the report" in a field that was purposely too narrow to display that text, and nothing I did (checked and/or unchecked multiline and wordwrap) would cause the field to wrap the text and display the whole phrase.

Does anyone actually test this stuff before sending it out? And now we have to wait for a fix in 90 day increments? And what about those that are coming up on an expired license? They get software that will never be updated but doesn't work as would be reasonable and expected?

Well... I am evaluating to buy RB. I must to say that the report designer / engine is one of the most expected feature to me. Does RS offer hotfixes (patches) to the current customers or they need to wait next release to fix the bugs?

Rarely. They might in this case, but history shows that it will be roughly 90 days for a fix, and even then it might not show up.

Ricknova,

RB have in the past offered hot fixes for show stopping bugs. An additional release has already been mentioned for this year in the blog.

I had posted a message saying it was working for me, but never mind, my initial test text was inadvertently hard wrapped. Unwrapped text is not wrapping like it should.

Sometimes I also wonder if RS tests this stuff before release.

Wait... it got tested and reported, and yet they still released this crap? Well, that speaks volumes about REALSoftware as a company.

For info the full text of the report has been copied below, I must admit I was expecting a "can grow" property much like the Access report generator. The text below was dated 12 Sept 2009 and raised in fogbuz and placed on the feedback system on 28th Sept 09 (Simon):

Product: REALbasic
Version: RB 2009 R4B3
Platform: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)

Description:
If I set the field Multiline and WordWrap properties to true and the linespacing property to some value, the row height of the Body to grow. Perhaps this is the wrong interpretation of how these properties are supposed to work but I would expect the band to grow.

If that's not how it's supposed to work then I strong urge a 'can grow' property that can affect the size of the parent band.

Steps to Reproduce:
See attached project. Take the description field and make it smaller. Set the properties so it can do multiline with wordwrap and linespacing of 1 or more
